Enchanted Odyssey

Concept Art, Modelling, Texturing, Animation

In this project I took on the challenge of learning both Zbrush and Substance Painter in creating a game concept. The game is a fantasy 3D RPG where the player has to navigate through various hostile fantastical dungeons.

Process:

In the first 5 weeks, I originally worked with someone else and ideated on the game mechanics as well as coming up with various concepts.

I then started to sculpt the boss in Zbrush, which later became the player character. I also sculpted the two enemies, the Elemental Crab and the Fat Slug. I also sculpted the plant leaves separately before combining them later in Maya into plants after baking the leaves in Substance Painter. I retopologized all the sculpts in Maya for a lower polycount.

Lastly, I also sculpted a few rock variations to be placed around the map.

I also modelled the workbench prop, bow and arrow, and sword in Maya.

I did all the textures in Substance Painter for the plants before combining them to form plant meshes in Maya. I also did tileable textures for the terrain and rocks (which will use triplanar mapping)

For the weapons and the Elemental Crab, some of their colours were changed according to the element.

For rigging, I quickly created controls (mostly FK) and used a mix of mixamo animations and reanimating it myself for the player character movements. I later integrated this into the Unreal scene.

Although not integrated in Unreal, I also created rigs for the Elemental Crab and Fat Slug as well as an idle animation for the Crab and a crawling animation for the Slug.

Finally, I placed all the objects in Unreal and lit the scene. I used a mix of recording the camera controller and cinecamera to record some footage of the walkthrough.
